The team
Here's the current team:
- Tony Parks - A keeper who was signed as a
temp. He saved a penalty for Spurs in the UEFA cup
final a few years back. GK
- Craig Mawson - Young goalkeeper who is
starting to push his way into squads. Made some appearances in
preseason, but Ternent feels that he isn't ready just yet.
GK
- Chris Brass - The season before
last's, player of the year. Always gives his best, and is maturing
into an excellent defender, in the centre, or on the right.
DF
- Steve Blatherwick - Read
Ternent page for details of Steve's release. DF
- Neil Moore - Last season's captain seems to
be out of favour with new boss Stan Ternent. He came on in
midfield, and did well, but doesn't seem as impressive as last
season. DF
- Steve Morgan - Free transfer from Wigan.
Morgan, who has premiership experience with Coventry City, can
operate at the back, or as a left wing-back. He is composed on the
ball when in defence, but in midfield is often unaware of what is
going on behind him. DF
- Mark Winstanley - Read
Ternent page for details of Mark's release. DF
- Lee Howey - Read Ternent
page for details of Lee's release. DF/AT
- Gareth West - Young centre-back is on the
brink of the first-team squad. Very tall, and seems quite
comfortable when on the ball. May get a game later in the
season. DF
- Matthew Haywood - Young centre-back made his
debut as a substitute against York. Stan Ternent says that he
isn't ready yet, but looked like a decent young player.
DF
- Chris Scott - Young David Beckham look-a-like
also came on against York City, but gave an excellent display at
right-back. Looked composed on the ball, and brought it out of
defence well. I hear he can also play midfield. DF/MF
- Mark Robertson - Young Australian has made an
impressive start to his Burnley career - so impressive in fact,
that he is on the brink of the Australian Olympic squad. Can play
in midfield or defence, he never gives up, and looks a great
prospect. DF/MF
- Mark Ford - Youngster signed from Leeds
United before last season. The ex-England Under 21 international
made a bit of a slow start, but has come on well since. If he
concentrates, could become a star of the team. MF
- Mike Williams - Read
Ternent's page for details of Mike's release. MF
- Paul Weller - Just signed a new deal after
deciding against a move to Premiership side West Ham. Is another
excellent youngster from the youth side. He never gives up, and
his surging runs of cause the opposition trouble. MF
- Glen Little - Young Irishman was without a
doubt the star of last season. He single-handedly kept us up, and
attracted some very big clubs. He has amazing skill, and seems to
get better every game. MF
- Carl Smith - Another young midfielder, he
made his debut last season at Chesterfield, and broke into the
first-team this season after Mark Ford's injury. Has been dropped
again, as manager Stan Ternent surely feels that it could be too
much for the youngster. Another very bright prospect.
MF
- Andy Cooke - Cookey bagged 20 last
season, and is starting to live up to the tag given to him by
Dario Gradi of "The New Steve Bull". He is strong, aggressive,
good in the air, and his a very good shot. Surely will one day be
a one million pound player. AT
- Andy Payton - Local lad signed last season in
a £375,000 straight swap deal with Huddersfield for Paul
Barnes. He immediately got to the task of keeping up his boyhood
heroes, and formed a very impressive strike partnership with Andy
Cooke. Betting on him getting 20 this season is a certainty.
AT
- Kevin Henderson - Young striker signed from
Morpeth Town last season broke into the team in impressive style
with a stunning strike in the AutoWindscreen's shield. Will be
looking to fight his way into the side this season AT
- Colin Carr-Lawton - Another young striker,
Carr-Lawton was first introduced by ex-manager Adrian Heath. He
seemed a little lightweight then, but looks to have improved now.
AT
- Phil Eastwood - Yet another young striker. He
made his debut in the season opener at Watford last year. Still
doesn't look ready for first-team, but always looks sharp in the
reserves.
- Ron Jepson - Big strong centre-forward signed
from Bury on a free-transfer. A couple of years ago partnered
Andy Booth at Huddersfield. Always gives his best. AT
